What God is Teaching Me
So some things I am not, I am not good at public speaking. I can prepare and practice and make it seem like I am good at it, but I am terrified of it. I am much more of a writer than a talker.
Last night my small group (Crash, at Blue Ridge Community Church) wrapped up our I AM series. Talking about who we are in Christ. Some things I learned from that, but didn't want to share out loud on a microphone in front of everyone were this:
1. Even on days when I fail God gives me the strength to rise again! - Proverbs 24:16 "Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes." - The devil wants to keep me in the lies of defeat, when clearly my Father says, my child rise again.
2. I am a servant - This I learned from the leadership retreat more so than the I AM series. - Priscilla Schirer talked about the story of Saul in 1 Samuel 9. The story was about doing what seem like mundane tasks to the glory of God because you never know when that task will lead you to your destiny. That alone was a huge encouragement, but the more I read it another part of the story began to stick out to me more.
"When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, “Come, let’s go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us.”

"When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, “Come, let’s go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us.”
6 But the servant replied, “Look, in this town there is a man of God; he is highly respected, and everything he says comes true. Let’s go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take.”
7 Saul said to his servant, “If we go, what can we give the man? The food in our sacks is gone. We have no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?”
8 The servant answered him again. “Look,” he said, “I have a quarter of a shekel[a] of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take.” 9 (Formerly in Israel, if someone went to inquire of God, they would say, “Come, let us go to the seer,” because the prophet of today used to be called a seer."
To me the obedience of the servant to stand up to Saul, his master and challenge him to keep going reminded me, one of how important Godly community is, and two I felt like my time now is meant being a servant to others instead of seeking out my own destiny.
3. I am not defined by the size of my clothes. - To tell you I have this one mastered is a lie. You should hear some of the horrible negative things I say about myself on a daily basis. I haven't even started to let go of this piece yet, but I am trying to start surrendering that to God too because my identity has nothing to do with how I look, but who God says I am, and he says I am beautiful!
4. God has enough grace to not leave me where I am. - My friend Hannah wrote a song called I AM, at least I think that is what it is called, and that song has meant so much to me. I wrote down part of it just so I can constantly sing it to myself. "You say I AM and darkness flees, you say you are who I say to be, you say my love I've rescued you, and I have grace enough to see you through, you are because I am in you." This song reminds me that God isn't finished with me yet and that he has so much more in store for me!

Overall these last few weeks have been really encouraging and even on Sunday, the Press On series, that we are in is also reminding me to keep going, enjoy the easy laid back times and stop longing for the next season of life!
